Nha Trang's a nice enough town, though very touristy. There are in particular a large number of Russian tourists, meaning signs in Russian abound within the town (also signs in English for the non-Russian tourists, I should add). There are also lots of bars and restaurants. We've been eating fresh seafood since we got here, and it's delicious. The other day we had barbecued whole lobster for lunch, bought from and cooked by a hawker right on the beach. It was wonderful, and for less than a fiver. Last night we had a stupendous seafood hotpot, which is high in the running for best meal of the trip so far.
The bars have also come in useful, in part being to blame for frayed nerves today after a few jars last night. Just the thing for walking up lots of steps in the blazing heat to see a giant statue of Buddha.
The snorkelling was also good - though Katie panicked a bit at the sight of a jellyfish, and kept nearly kicking me in the head with her flippers. The coral was somewhat bleached, but there were lots of bright colourful fish, including some perfect butterfly fish. The trip also enabled me to once again indulge in the pastime of diving in to tropical waters from the top of a boat. This time my technique was much improved, meaning less personal pain.
All told Nha Trang is a cool place, and judging by the size of the hotels, will soon be (if it isn't already) a prime location for package holidays. I'd say something like "you should come before it gets really touristy" but it's already really touristy. So you should come if you want to. The only down side is that about 4 every day the dark clouds come in and you can't really continue to stay on the beach.
